Join us this summer in San Diego

for an educational & interactive Sports Performance experience!

PURPOSE.  The USATF San Diego Summer Sports Performance Clinics were established to promote excellence, engagement, and education in track & field in San Diego.  This series of four clinics, brought to you by USATF and Del Norte High School, will feature some of the top experts in Track & Field from the San Diego area.  All T&F athletes and parents in San Diego are welcome to attend, as well as other sports like Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, etc.  Athletes & parents, we hope you enjoy this opportunity to learn to succeed in Track & Field and other sports!

Additional Details

DETAILS: All four sessions begin at 9:30am and end at 1:00pm on the Friday dates listed above.  Sessions are at the Del Norte High School Track, located at 16601 Nighthawk Ln, San Diego, CA 92127.  Schedule for each day: (1) 9:30-10am - Introduction and dynamic warm-up; (2) 10am-12pm - Interactive sessions with coaches and experts; (3) 12-1pm - Lunch will be served in the school's staff lounge.  Parents highly encouraged to attend lunch for speeches and take-home messages.

COST: Beginner session costs $40 for non-USATF members.  Free for USATF members.

Advanced sessions (no USATF membership): $60 each or all three for $150 (Save $30).

Advanced sessions (with USATF membership): $40 each or all three for $100 (Save $20).

Brian Bradley

Brian Bradley is on a mission to help millions of people learn how to live healthier, pain-free lives and achieve complete fitness.  A frequent speaker at industry events, he presents, consults, and conducts training with corporations, organizations, and nonprofits on the topics of chronic pain, healthy living, and high-level performance.  His clients include the Tony Robbins Companies, Bulletproof Radio, YPO, the Seattle Study Club, and the NFL.

 

Brian has been studying “true” biomechanics and human anatomy using The Egoscue Method for more than 25 years.  As a Posture-Pain-Performance coach and motivational speaker, he has spoken in more than 15 countries, promoting a myriad of healthy principles for achieving success in all areas of personal and professional life.  Brian believes that real and lasting change can happen when we commit to health as a lifestyle. His postural training, fitness experience and engaging personality get people of all ages moving and digging deep to get their best results.

Tina Breen is 63 years old and still going strong.  She loves running and racing for the pure joy and adrenaline rush after a fast 5k - like riding a roller coaster!  Tina has always been active. Staying healthy and fit are her main stays, and she wouldn't have it any other way. Setting an example to her young running friends encourages them that life just gets better as you get older.  Tina loves supporting others and being involved in the running community. She just wants to share her joy with others and be a positive role model in our ever changing world. Tina is currently the membership and clubs chair volunteer on the USATF SD Association Board.

 

Tina has 32 years of experience in coaching and program development at the YMCA of San Diego County, including Gymnastics Program Director at the Mission Valley  Branch (1978-1985) and South Bay Branch (1985-2011). Tina earned a bachelors degree in both Recreation Management and Physical Education from San Diego Mesa College, Cal State Northridge, and San Diego State University.  Tina was a gymnast in High School and College. Tina is a current professional member of both USAG and USATF, and a current member of San Diego Track Club Women’s Masters Team.

Vic Cabali is a speed and strength coach at the Parisi Speed School of San Diego, where he specializes in training youth athletes of all sports to improve speed.  Vic also serves as the Parisi Co-Program Director of San Diego.

 

Vic’s education and credentials include a B.S. Kinesiology Exercise Science from CSUSM, a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, a certified USAPL Coach.

 

As an athlete, Vic has 7 years of powerlifting experience, and he is a nationally qualified 83kg USAPL Powerlifter.  Vic’s best Lifts in a sanctioned USAPL meet include: 446 lbs Squat, 325 lbs Bench, and 611 lbs Deadlift.

Hunter Daniel

Hunter Daniel, CFA is a competitive long distance runner who competed in college at both the Division I & II levels for the University of New Mexico & Humboldt State University. He ran both cross country in the fall and track & field in the spring. Being a two sport athlete allowed Hunter to hone his ability to perform under pressure which ultimately led to a career in the financial markets. He has worked for Goldman Sachs & is currently employed as a portfolio manager in the greater San Diego area.

 

Hunter is the current Treasurer for the USATF San Diego-Imperial Association & a member of the Prado Racing Team.

 

Prior to running, Hunter was the starting point guard for the State Championship winning Hope Christian Huskies. He was a two year letterman and All-State selection his senior year.

Colin Dunbar

Colin Dunbar is a professional hammer and weight thrower who trains as the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista.  Colin is ranked the 65th best hammer thrower in the world IAAF rankings as of June 2019.  Colin’s PRs include: Hammer (73.56m) and Weight (23.96m).

 

Colin was born and raised in Santa Barbara CA, and he graduated from Long Beach State in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in economics and a minor in entrepreneurship.  Colin also served as an assistant throws coach at Long Beach State.

 

Colin Dunbar is one of the most decorated throwers in school history at Long Beach State.  He helped lead the men's squad to the 2011 Big West championship by accounting for 29 points.  Dunbar claimed the conference title in the hammer and discus, while he also finished third in the shot put and sixth in the javelin.  He went on to earn All-America honors in both the hammer and discus. In addition, Dunbar won the weight throw at the 2011 MPSF Indoor Championships.  Dunbar was named the 2011 USTFCCCA West Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year, making him an automatic candidate for the National Athlete of the Year award. He was also the Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Year as a senior.

 

Dunbar has continued to succeed in his post-collegiate career as he won a silver medal as a member of Team USA at the 2015 NACAC Senior Area Championships in Costa Rica. He qualified for the meet with a sixth-place finish at the U.S. Outdoor Championships. Dunbar also medaled at the indoor (Weight Throw, 3rd) and outdoor (Hammer, 6th) national championships in 2013. In addition, he took fifth in the weight throw at the 2015 USA Indoor Championships.

 

Colin is also 3 time amateur national champion in the Highland Games, and he holds the amateur world record - 56lbs weight over bar.

Meriah Earle

Meriah Earle ran track and cross country at San Diego State University from 1996-2001, specializing in middle distance events, primarily the 800m.  While at SDSU, she held the 6th fastest 800m time in school history (2:10). After college, she pursued a career in pharmaceutical research and later attended the University of Maryland for her MS as a pathologist assistant.

 

Meriah rediscovered her passion for running, training, and racing in her mid-30's when she decided to tackle the marathon..."just for fun."  As a now masters athlete (over-40), Meriah has set lifetime personal bests on the road in the 5k (16:57), 10k (35:04), half marathon (1:16:26), and marathon (2:46:14).  She set her marathon PR at the 2019 Boston Marathon, where she was among the top 36 American women and 7th in her age group. This December, Meriah hopes to qualify for the 2020 Olympic trials in the marathon by running sub-2:45 at the California International Marathon.

 

Meriah is a certified USATF level one coach and Jack Daniels Vdot certified. She has worked with the Muscular Dystrpohy Association as an endurance coach and currently coaches the San Diego Track Club north county Tuesday night interval workout.  She also serves as a SDTC mentor for athletes training for distance events.

Tim Elkinton is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and has an M.S. degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology.  He has coached Middle School and High School track and field for the past 7 years, specializing in high jump. Coach Elkinton has NFHS certifications in “Fundamentals of Coaching” and “Concussions in Sports.”

Mickey Ferri, Ph.D. Economics, is a lifelong athlete who works professionally as an economist, data scientist, and track & field coach.  After years of competing, coaching, and consulting for sports organizations, he founded Economics Athletes to spread the best available knowledge to the next generation of athletes.

 

Mickey coaches sprints and relays at Del Norte High School in San Diego.  In addition, Mickey is a Board Member at USATF San Diego, where he serves as Communications Chair.  Mickey is a member of the San Diego Track Club, where he trains for races including the 1600m (5:25 PR) the 5k (20:47 PR), and the half marathon (1:51:42 PR).

Mickey works professionally as an expert in applied business economics at Insight Economics.  Previously, Mickey cofounded Enflux, a YCombinator company that makes motion capture clothing for health care, sports, and entertainment.  Mickey has also worked as an economist at Intensity (Quant Economics), where he consulted for professional sports organizations related to the NBA, MLB, and NFL.


​Mickey earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago, where he researched the economics of sports and entertainment under professors including Steve Levitt, coauthor of Freakonomics.  Mickey served as sprints coach on the UChicago track & field team for two years.  Mickey earned a B.A. from Tufts University, graduating summa cum laude with triple majors in mathematics, quantitative economics, and computer science.  At Tufts, Mickey competed on the track & field team for four years. His college PRs include: 11.17 (100m), 22.45 (200m), and 42.45 (4x100m relay).  Mickey is the grandson of NBA Hall of Famer Dolph Schayes and nephew of NBA center Danny Schayes and Olympic diver Wendy Lucero-Schayes.

Paul Greer

Paul Greer is a Professor in Health and Exercise Science at San Diego City College.  Paul has a Master's Degree in Kinesiology and 34 years coaching experience.  Paul is the United States Track & Field President for San Diego and serves as Secretary for the USATF Cross Country Council.  

 

As an athlete, Paul attended St. Augustine High School, where he was a top San Diego section miler.  Paul attended San Diego State University, where he set the school record in the 1500 meters (3:42.44).  His mark still stands as the best mark in school history.

 

Paul Greer ran the mile in under four minutes (3:59.79).  He was a 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier at 1500 meters with a 3:39.05, and he competed on the tough European track circuit in his post-college years.  Paul was inducted into the St. Augustine High School Hall of Fame in 1995.

 

In 2016, he was selected to be the Men’s Coach for Team USA’s Senior (20-35) and Junior’s teams (19 and under) at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country Championships.

 

Paul coaches the San Diego Track Club - the largest running club in San Diego.  He works with over 400 runners and is the Director for the Rockin N Runnin marathon training program, preparing athletes every year for San Diego's Rock N Roll marathon and half marathon in June.  Paul's workouts cater for runners of all ages and abilities and he provides training schedules to his athletes on an individual basis.

Allison Halverson

Allison Halverson (formerly Reaser) is a professional track and field athlete, specializing in the Heptathlon. Her accomplishments include the 2010 and 2011 Junior Nationals Champion, 2012 and 2016 Olympic Trials Participant, five-time NCAA All-American, 2014 NCAA DI Heptathlon runner-up, and a member of five USA national teams.  Allison finished the 2017-2018 season as the 2nd ranked Heptathlete in the USA.

 

Allison graduated from San Diego State University in 2014 with a B.S. in Kinesiology with emphasis in Fitness, Nutrition, and Health.  She combines her experience competing at an elite level in track and field with her knowledge in Kinesiology to create practices and coach athletes in all areas of the sport.  Allison is certified as a USATF Level 1 and Level 2 coach, and she has experience coaching at all levels from Elementary, Middle, and High School, to College and Masters athletes.

 

Coach Halverson is able to use her wide ranging experience and knowledge to tailor training sessions to any level of athlete at any age.  The only thing that matches her drive to become an Olympian is her desire to spread track and field to more people and help them get better with proper technique so they can set new personal bests and be able to become athletes for the rest of their lives.

Ciarán hails originally from Ireland, and currently he works at Kinetik Performance Co.  A runner himself, Ciarán specializes in treating runners via Active Release Therapy and massage therapy.

Ciarán has helped hundreds of athletes recover from injuries, improve strength, and increase mobility. He has a competitive background as a cross country and track and field athlete, competing in college track & field.  He now holds a massage therapy certification, an A.R.T. certification, and will pursue further A.R.T. coursework and a Strength and Conditioning Certificate in 2019.

Sean Pangelinan, owner of The Fit Lab, provides top-level fitness training, motivation, guidance, and education to improve overall fitness and make true, lasting lifestyle changes.  Sean provides first-class personal training, body composition analysis tests, VO2 max testing, and heart rate zone testing to the greater San Diego area.


Sean has earned a B.S. in kinesiology and exercise science from San Diego State University, is an ACSM certified personal trainer, and is a BOGA master trainer.  Sean competed in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing for Guam in canoeing.

Jonathan Pierce is the founder and principal of Kinetik Performance Co., where he provides professional athlete level care to all ambitious and driven people.  

 

Jonathan competed for Stanford University in Track & Field and cross country, where he was first-team all-PAC 10 (2005).  Jonathan’s collegiate career bests are: 1500 meters - 3:45.95, Mile - 4:13.11, 3000 meters - 8:04.21, 3000 meter steeplechase - 8:45.84, 5000 meters - 14:09.55.  In high school, Jonathan was 2002 New York state champion in the 1600 and 3200 meters.  After college, ran professionally for 3 years with Reebok/Zap Fitness, Mammoth Track Club, and ASICS.

 

Jonathan’s education includes Active Release Therapy ("A.R.T.") certifications in Upper Extremity (2013), Lower Extremity (2014), Spine (2015), Long Tract Nerve (2016), and a B.A. in Human Biology from Stanford University, 2007.

 

Jonathan worked as a therapist for Mammoth Track Club for two years, mentoring with elite coaches and therapists, including Dan Pfaff, Terrence Mahon, Dr. Justin Whitaker, and Dr. Chris Vincent.  Jonathan practiced at Fix Body Group, an elite rehabilitation facility in San Diego, for three years with Dr. Shawn Robek as a Director of Rehabilitation and Training. Jonathan has treated more than 50 Olympians, many World and Olympic medalists and world record holders.

 

Jonathan spent the 2016 Olympic campaign working exclusively with elite athletes as a consultant for Brooks Running and with numerous other individual Olympic athletes, including Brittney Reese, Jeremy Taiwo, Justine Fedronic, Evan Jager, Susan Kuijken, and Will Claye.

Bashir Ramzy

Bashir Ramzy coaches at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center alongside Jeremy Fischer (USATF director, Chula Vista resident program).  Bashir is USATF level 2 certified in sprints, jumps, and hurdles. Bashir’s coaching emphasis includes long, triple and high jump, as well as a specialty in sprints and hurdles.

Bashir attended Texas A&M, where he was a 5x All American in the long jump, triple jump, 110 hurdles, and sprints.  In addition, Bashir was a 2 time Big 12 performer of the year and 2001 NCAA runner up in the 110 hurdles.  Bashir was inducted into his alma mater Texas A&M's hall of fame in 2009.

After college, Bashir participated in the Olympic Training Center resident program (2003-2010), specializing in the long jump.  Bashir earned a silver medal in the 4x400 relay and a bronze medal in the long jump at the Pan American Games in Rio De Janeiro in 2007.  He was on the World Indoor Championship team in Moscow in 2006 for the long jump.  Bashir’s personal bests include long jump (27'1"), triple jump (53'8"), and 110 hurdles (13.61).

In his professional coaching career, Bashir coached a junior college long jump champion Saladin Nasser at Mesa College in 2014 before working as the national team jumps coach for Saudi Arabia through 2016.  He qualified a long jumper for the 2015 World Championships during his tenure there.  In addition to Bashir’s work alongside Jeremy Fischer, Bashir coaches world ranked hurdlers Queen Harrison (100mh) and Japan's Takatoshi Abe (400mh).

Mary Schneider

Mary Schneider is the founder of Green Body Runner (https://www.greenbodyrunner.com/), where she specializes in nutrition and coaching for runners.  She has counseled all levels of runners, from beginners wishing to run their first 5K to those who have qualified for the Olympic Trials.  Mary’s certifications and qualifications include (1) Certified Plant Based Nutritionist, (2) Certified Holistic Nutritionist, (3) Certified Yoga Teacher, and (1) Certified USATF Level 1 Coach.

 

Mary currently trains in San Diego with the Prado Racing Team, a team of elite adult distance runners.  Mary is currently training to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Trials in the marathon. Her PB of 2:48:48 (6:26 min/mile) is just three minutes off the qualifying mark.  Mary has been selected as a Rabbit Elite runner for 2019.

Mary ran cross county in high school (Maryland) and college (St. Michael’s College, Vermont).  In college, she was the 2008 Vermont State XC Champion (DI, II, III). After graduating college, Mary attended the University of Baltimore School of Law and spent 6 years working as an Assistant State's Attorney in Maryland.  After almost 6 years off, Mary started competing again in 2015, and she has improved her marathon time to 2:48:48 (6:27/mile) and half marathon time to 1:17:38 (5:56/mile).

Ann Stefan coaches long and triple jumpers at Del Norte High School and is Level 1 certified by USATF. To inspire the next generation of athletes, she also coaches 3rd-5th grade girls at San Diego Unified's Sherman Elementary School as part of the Girls on the Run after-school program. She is knowledgeable in resistance exercise and trains at Glute Lab in Pacific Beach.

 

Ann is an accomplished student-athlete. She earned 8 varsity letters while maintaining straight A's and an above-4.0 GPA during her tenure at Quincy Senior High School, a large public school in western Illinois. She graduated from MIT in 2008 with a B.S. in Chemical-Biological Engineering and currently leads e-commerce operations at Giftly.
